The "FIRST" Friday of every month we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:00 AM to 4:00PM at St. Joseph's Church(Malby Ave.) during the winter months and at St. Mary's Church(Cornell Ave.) during the Spring and Summer months. At the conclusion of Adoration we have evening prayer and Benediction. " Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.
" TIPS FOR EUCHARIST ADORATION"
This devotion fits easily into prayer's four basic forms---adoration,thanksgiving,reparation and petition. In actual practice, many of us find that out prayer before the tabernacle commonly tends to veer between all four forms, depending on our particular circumstances and needs at the time.
Greatly to be recommended on all occasions is a preparatory prayer to the Holy Spirit for guidance in how to spend each precious minute before the Blessed Sacrament. Its leading adorer- Mary, Queen of the Angels- is always ready to assist our feeble efforts to co-adore with her and all the blessed spirits, including our own special guardian.
St. Ignatius counsels us to recollect ourselves immediately prior to entering the chapel; thus we are primed to focus our minds straight away on the Holy of Holies without undue delay or distraction.
One particularly helpful guideline during adoration is: never feel worried if you find you have no thoughts at all, let alone feelings of devotion. The all-important factor is that you yourself are here and now before the Lord, a personal presence before the Divine Presence of Him who knows you inside out, who can read your innermost thoughts and who loves you immensely. It is a good general rule to follow our spiritual attractions in choosing how to pass the time during adoration.
Some people read Scripture or spiritual books. Others confine themselves to ejaculatory prayer, even repeating the same ejaculation over and over again. St. Francis of Assisi would spend long hours just repeating the formula: "My Lord and my God." One common and highly recommended practice is to pray the Rosary. A plenary indulgence may be gained, if one recites five decades in a church or chapel where the Sacrament is reserved.
